Calculator Usage

Calculators may be used on Tools Day (Day 1) of the Mathematics Session. Students with an Individual Education Plan (IEP) for mathematics or a 504 Plan for mathematics who use calculators on Mathematics Day 2 (Non-tools day) as an accommodation must have that test invalidated.

The calculator is defined as a hand-held device designed for mathematical computations. Calculators must operate in silent mode. Computers, powerbooks, portable/hand-held computers, pocket organizers, electronic writing pads or pen input/ stylus-driven, devices with QWERTY keyboards, and cell phone calculators are not permitted for use on the WASL.

Proctors are required to check calculators before the test. Therefore, it is important for each student to have an approved calculator. Students should be thoroughly familiar with the operation of the calculators they plan to use during the test session. Calculators may not be shared, and communication between calculators is prohibited during the testing.

Students must not use calculator memories to take test items out of the room. Students that attempt to remove test items from the room by any method will have their test scores invalidated.
