The Tahoma School District offers two different pathways of mathematics for our students, College Preparatory Mathematics (CPM) and Cognitive Tutor (CT).Both pathways offer a continuing program for all students.
The minimum Math graduation requirement is 2.0 credits.
Washington State four year colleges require three years of high school math including Algebra, Geometry, and Advanced Algebra.
Prior to attending a community college, four-year college, or university students will be required to take a placement test which includes mathematics. To best prepare for this test it is recommended that students continue math through their senior year including Pre-Calculus, AP Statistics or Calculus.
The CPM program develops concepts through guided instruction, individual and team work, data collection, and assignments. Before registering in mathematic courses students are required to discuss his/her placement with their current mathematics teacher. With such counseling, students are more likely to be placed in a mathematics class at a compatible ability level and learning style.
The CT program combines software based, individualized computer lessons with collaborative, real-world problem solving activities.
