The High School Volunteer Program at the Seattle Aquarium is looking for volunteers! This is an exciting volunteer opportunity for students ages 16-18 to immerse themselves in marine science and earn community service credit/hours.

During the school year session each student volunteers three 5-hour shifts per month from December-June. Shift times are Saturdays or Sundays from 9am-2pm or 1pm-6pm, with occasional weekdays available during school holiday breaks. During their shifts students will give formal talks, monitor and interpret Aquarium exhibits, conduct visitor tours and assist with other special events as they occur.

Orientation will be held on Thursday, October 8th from 5:30-6:30pm OR Sunday, October 11th from 11:00am-12:00pm. This meeting is MANDATORY for those interested in the program (students will not be accepted unless meeting is attended).

5. Covington Arts Commission

Are you interested in promoting arts and cultural events? Are you looking for an opportunity to complete community service while learning about the operations of your local government? Do you simply enjoy the rewards that come from helping others and making your City a better place to live? If any of those statements are true, then the City of Covington has a volunteer opportunity you should not pass up!

Applications are being requested now from students between the ages of 14-18 to fill two student vacancies on the City of Covington Arts Commission. The Arts Commission is comprised of seven members and acts in an advisory capacity to the City Council by evaluating the artistic and cultural needs of the Covington community. Regular meetings are held at Covington City Hall on the second Thursday of each month, starting at 6:30 PM and lasting approx. two hours.

Applicants must live inside or within a three-mile radius of Covington's city limits. A passion for the arts and the ability to commit to serving a one-year term of once-a-month evening meetings are the necessary criteria. Qualified applicants will be briefly interviewed by the City Council. Applications are available at Covington City Hall or online at www.ci.covington.wa.us
